Lifeguard Job Duties

Do you think you have what it takes to work at the most fun place in town? Do you like spending your summer outdoors, listening to music, enjoying the laughter, and being invited to the most fun events of Helena? Below are some of the job duties of being a Lifeguard at the Knob. We are highly selective of our guards and take a lot of pride of recruiting the best and brightest of the area. Most of our positions are filled early and kept for years. If there is an opening, we plan to fill it with the next best Lifeguard.

Requirements:

  • Currently possess their American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

  • At least 16 years of age

  • Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person and meet other physical requirements required for job certification.

  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure the safety of all swimmers.

  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

Other Job Duties can include:

  • Provide a high-level of customer service to members, program participants and guests at all times

  • Supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensure participants adhere to all aquatic guidelines and procedures.

  • Examine injured persons and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment.

  • Perform appropriate water rescues, when necessary, using rescue techniques and equipment.

  • Contact emergency medical personal in case of serious injury.

  • Monitor Front Desk Check In station and verify members and/or guest.

  • Performing swim test for our youngest swimmers.

  • Straighten pool deck furniture and make it ready for the next member.

  • Clean restrooms, club house, and other areas of the club.

  • Successfully complete all opening and/or closing duties listed for each shift.

  • Adhere to scheduling procedures and properly notify of days you are not available.

  • Provide assistance for event set up and shutdowns.

  • Able to be on time for each shift and remain alert throughout your shift.

  • Monitoring designated areas to recognize signs of danger.

  • Warning swimmers regarding unsafe situations.

  • Maintaining order in swimming areas.
